FUNCTIONAL APPROACH TO SUPPLY RISK MANAGEMENT IN AN UNSTABLE BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT
Abstract
The article studies the essence of the term «risk», which is mostly understood by scientists as uncertainty or unpredictability, probability, threat and opportunity. Most researchers associate risk with the uncertainty of future activity results, when it is impossible to accurately predict the consequences of decisions made. Potential supply risks are highlighted in the context of operational, current and strategic planning. The feasibility of dividing supply risks according to types of planning (operational, current and strategic) lies in the need to solve them and respond to them. The justification of an effective method for managing supply risks based on a functional approach is proposed. The proposed approach involves the consistent application of the functions of planning, organizing, motivating, controlling and regulating in order to minimize the impact of risks on the activities of the organization. An effective management process is possible only with a clear and correct sequence, which will detail each proposed stage. That is, the effectiveness of risk management, first of all, depends on their planning in the activities of any process or task. Globalization of markets leads to an increase in the influence of internal and external environmental factors on the activities of companies, which leads to an increase in risks, especially in the supply sector. An in-depth analysis of both internal and external environmental factors that affect the supply process has been carried out. Important stages of the functional approach are risk monitoring (constant tracking of possible risks in supply), deviation analysis (identifying the difference between planned and actual supply results), assessment of the effectiveness of measures (checking how effective risk management actions were), etc. Regulation of the functional process of supply risk management involves eliminating deviations at any of the previous stages to ensure the effectiveness of the management process and obtain a quality result. The practical significance of the functional approach to supply risk management lies in the possibility of timely identification, assessment and minimization of their negative impact on the activities of the enterprise.
