FINANCIAL STABILITY OF UKRAINIAN BANKS UNDER MARTIAL ARTS
Abstract
The article examines the issues of financial stability of Ukrainian banks under martial law. It is noted that the financial stability of banks in scientific research is perceived in the context of stable operation of banks, balance of their resources, liquidity of assets and availability of necessary reserves. The task of state authorities is to create conditions for ensuring the financial stability of banks. Such conditions are regulatory and legal support and a number of indicators by which it is possible to assess the financial stability of banks. The study pays special attention to the consideration of indicators of financial stability of banks recommended by the International Monetary Fund for introduction into the domestic banking system. It is emphasized that the introduction of these indicators of financial stability has led to a review of the methodology for forming bank capital, based on the requirements of the European Union. Based on the analysis of the dynamics of prudential capital ratios of Ukrainian banks, it was established that despite martial law in Ukraine, the domestic banking system complies with the updated requirements for capital adequacy and even exceeds the established values by almost two times. In order to assess the financial stability of banks, an analysis of the dynamics of indicators for the third and fourth quarters of 2022-2024 was conducted, which showed an improvement in individual indicators, in particular, such as the indicator of non-performing loans excluding reserves to capital, the indicator of non-performing loans to total gross loans. Based on the analysis of the profit indicator of the domestic banking sector, it was proven that during martial law (2022-2024), the net profit of banks increased significantly. As for the indicator of return on assets, it had a tendency to decrease, which is explained by a decrease in the profitability of the main types of bank assets. The analysis made it possible to substantiate the conclusions that despite martial law and the introduction of updated indicators, the financial stability of banks remains at a sufficient level. Banks continue to operate stably and actively and provide services.
