OPTIMIZATION OF MATERIAL FLOWS IN THE PRODUCTION AND LOGISTIC SYSTEM OF AN ENTERPRISE
Abstract
The article examines the formation and functioning of material flows within the production and logistics system of an enterprise under conditions of asynchrony between external and internal management circuits. The study identifies key destabilizing factors affecting flow processes, including divergence between procurement and production objectives, irregular resource inflows, limited production capacities, and fragmented information support. These factors generate structural imbalances manifested in overloaded logistics nodes, shortages of critical materials at key production stages, and increased non-productive costs. Special attention is given to the influence of the external environment on the stability of material flows. Supplier reliability, transport infrastructure conditions, and logistics risk levels are identified as primary determinants of system variability. Even minor external disruptions may propagate through the production system, producing cascading effects that impact overall operational efficiency. The study also addresses the alignment between material inflow intensity and enterprise processing capacity. Discrepancies between supply volumes and production capabilities lead either to excessive inventory accumulation or to underutilization of resources. Inventory management is therefore considered a key balancing mechanism, although both overstocking and shortage conditions negatively affect economic efficiency and system stability. Furthermore, the role of intra-production material movements and information provision in logistics efficiency is analyzed. Internal logistics processes significantly influence production cycle duration and cost structure, while insufficient integration of information flows reduces the accuracy and timeliness of managerial decisions, limiting system adaptability. The research highlights that weak coordination of internal logistics and fragmented information exchange constrain the improvement of production and logistics system performance. These limitations reduce the ability of enterprises to respond effectively to environmental changes. An optimization approach is proposed based on the integration of information and logistics systems and the implementation of adaptive management mechanisms. This approach enhances coherence among system components, improves responsiveness to dynamic conditions, and increases overall system resilience under uncertainty.
