THE ROLE OF INVESTMENTS IN DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION OF THE ECONOMY IN INCREASING THE COMPETITIVENESS OF COUNTRIES IN THE POST-PANDEMIC PERIOD
Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the phenomenon associated with the impact of a global crisis (COVID-19 pandemic) on the transformation of society and the economy of countries around the world. It has been established that the overall impact of the spread of the corona virus disease on the world economy and the economies of individual countries can be characterized as negative. At the same time, it has been proven that, along with the global recession, the negative impact on business activity, stock and financial markets, the pandemic has created conditions that have encouraged the intensification of the processes of digital transformation of the economy. The aim of the article was to clarify the importance of investments in digital transformation in the post-pandemic period. Based on the analysis of individual indicators of digital development (international ratings data) of countries around the world, their focus on accelerating digital transformation processes as the main way to improve their own competitiveness and the importance of investments in digital development were confirmed. To achieve this goal, data from reports of the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) were used, related to determining the place of countries in the world in terms of digital and overall competitiveness. The methods of analytical grouping and correlation analysis were applied. The countries presented in the report on their digital competitiveness were divided into 7 groups depending on the level of the overall rating indicator. It was proven that the majority of the analyzed countries are focused on accelerating the processes of digital transformation in order to increase their competitiveness. The analytical grouping of countries was carried out according to the IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking and IMD World Competitiveness Ranking in 2025, which allowed us to confirm the existence of a connection between the general and digital competitiveness of countries. In addition, the key focuses of managing these processes were identified. The role of investments in digital transformation in the post-pandemic period is considered and prospects for further research are outlined.
