THE MODERN STATE OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSCIOUSNESS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CULTURE OF THE POPULATION OF TRANSCARPATHIA AND DIRECTIONS OF THEIR FORMATION
Abstract
Purpose. The aim of the article is to identify the state and level of ecological consciousness, the ecological culture of the population of Transcarpathia on the bases of the analysis of respondents' responses and to study the sources of information (knowledge) of respondents about the role of ecological education and upbringing, to identify the causes of inadequate ecological culture of the adult rural population of Transcarpathia and to propose measures for its improvement. Methodology of research. General scientific methods and research tools are used in order to achieve a certain goal, in particular: theoretical – to characterize the object and subject of research, their regional specificity; sociological – for obtaining the necessary data array; analytical and descriptive and method of generalization – to identify factors that influence the level of ecological culture and population education, as well as the formulation of conclusions and proposals.Findings. The essence of concepts of ecological consciousness and ecological culture of the population is considered through the prism of strengthening environmental problems in the world, on the one hand, and the necessity of the formation of a new paradigm of ecological thinking – on the other. The state and level of ecological consciousness, ecological cultures of the population of Transcarpathia are investigated. Problems in the part of the practical application by the population of their ecological knowledge, their transformation into sustainable environmental beliefs and moral imperatives are revealed. The directions of improvement of environmental education of youth are determined. Originality. For the first time an attempt has been made to identify which of the environmental problems are the most important for the population of Transcarpathia at the present stage and to investigate the respondents' attitude towards the ecology of their region. It is stated that some of the population of the region has a certain dualism regarding the understanding of norms of ecological morality and the admissibility of the optional adherence to them. Practical value. The results of the study can be used in the practical work of the regional authorities, public institutions, scientific and educational institutions.
