FOOD INDUSTRY IN UKRAINE: TRENDS AND PROSPECTS FOR DEVELOPMENT ON THE BASIS OF SUSTAINABILITY AND INCLUSIVENESS

Abstract

The article studies current trends and substantiates prospects for developing the food industry in Ukraine on the basis of sustainability and inclusiveness. It is noted that due to the need to reach the level of economically developed countries and restore pre-war trends, Ukrainian food industry enterprises need to revise investment, innovation, and financial benchmarks. It is proved that a study of the trends in the functioning of the food industry will help to substantiate the prospects for development to improve the quality of life, empower the population and their active participation in the production and distribution of goods, and achieve economic, environmental, and food security. The main tasks of the food industry are defined. It is revealed that during 1990-2023, new enterprises and technologies were created, production volumes increased and product quality improved, and organic and ecological products became popular. It is noted that in recent years, the industry has suffered losses due to the pandemic and war, but some enterprises have been able to adapt and continue to develop. It is revealed that the development of the food industry is complicated by the complex economic, political, and epidemiological situation, unregulated legislation, low level of governance, weak state financial support, low income and solvency of the population, and Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It is proved that in order to increase the level of processing and production of finished products, infrastructure development, and investment in technology and innovation, it is necessary to create favourable conditions for the production and development of the food industry, including reducing the tax burden and simplifying the procedures for registering and licensing enterprises. It is substantiated that in order to increase the production and consumption of organic products and increase the export potential of Ukrainian food products, it is necessary to ensure the quality and safety of food products, including the development and implementation of appropriate standards and control over their compliance. It is proved that in the context of transformational changes in the global and national economies, applying the concept of sustainable inclusive development of the food industry can effectively solve social problems and contribute to creating a more just and equal society.
