CHARACTERISTICS OF THREATS TO ECONOMIC SECURITY OF ENTERPRISES
Abstract
The essence and structure of threats to enterprises’ economic security in the context of modern challenges and risks are examined in the article. The relevance of ensuring the enterprise's economic security is substantiated, particularly during periods of rapid technological shifts and social upheavals. The scientific works of domestic and foreign researchers on issues of enterprises’ economic security, highlighting the need for systematic approaches to threat identification and assessment, are analyzed. Structural and functional characterization of threats to enterprise economic security across ten main categories, such as: macroeconomic, production, financial, foreign economic, social, cyber threats, raider attacks, energy, technological, and environmental threats, is conducted in the research. Each category is thoroughly analyzed in terms of its specific manifestations, underlying causes, and potential consequences for enterprise stability and competitiveness. Macroeconomic threats include economic recession, inflation processes, and investment crisis that create systemic risks beyond enterprise control. Production threats encompass infrastructure destruction, supply chain disruptions, and deindustrialization processes that directly impact manufacturing capabilities. Financial threats involve budget deficits, banking risks, and currency fluctuations that affect access to capital and financial stability. Foreign economic threats manifest through export potential losses and trade restrictions, while social threats include population migration and labor potential reduction. Cyber threats emerge through attacks on digital infrastructure, complemented by raider threats involving hostile takeovers. Energy threats stem from infrastructure damage affecting continuous operations, while technological threats arise from equipment obsolescence and import dependencies. Environmental threats include ecological disasters and stricter regulatory requirements. It is revealed that modern enterprises face unprecedented challenges due to military actions, particularly evident in foreign economic threats such as export potential losses and trade restrictions. Social threats, including population migration and labor potential reduction, create human resource deficits. Cyber threats have emerged as critical risks, with Ukraine experiencing 574 cyberattacks during 2022-2023, representing 17.6% of global incidents. The interconnected nature of contemporary threats and their ability to create cascading negative effects on enterprise operations is established in the research. A methodological foundation for developing comprehensive economic security management systems, enabling enterprises to prioritize resources and implement targeted protective measures against the most critical threats, is provided.
